Hi I’m Dr Tan from Dr Tan and Partners
In this video, I will be talking to you about Human Growth Hormone. Commonly known as HGH.
HGH is a hormone produced by a tiny gland located under your brain called the pituitary gland. Your body produces a lot of it during childhood to stimulate growth in the bones.
In adulthood, your body still produces HGH in small amounts to maintain the health of your bones and organs. As you age, the amount of HGH naturally produced by your body gets less and less.
If the body becomes deficient in HGH, it may lead to symptoms such as low libido, decrease in muscle mass and strength, dry thin skin and difficulty in concentration. It may also lead to other less visible changes like an increase in cholesterol levels, weaker bones and heart disease.
Of course having these symptoms does not necessarily mean you are deficient in HGH. Maybe you just need to get a little more exercise!
However, if you think your HGH levels may be too low, it is best to first see a doctor. There are blood tests that can be done to determine if your HGH is too low or not and help you decide if you need HGH replacement therapy.
Synthetic HGH available as an injection has been around for many years. It is used to make children taller and to build muscle in patients with chronic wasting diseases.
HGH treatment can only be given as an injection self administered daily via a tiny needle into the abdomen. Much like how people with diabetes give themselves insulin shots.
HGH treatment is not for everyone. However, if you truly are deficient in HGH, replacing it to normal levels can have a huge positive impact on your well being.
If you think you may be suffering from HGH deficiency, see our doctors for a consultation
